THE "CORE CATS" AND FOUNDERS OF THE GROUP

Mike Melinger (saxophone) has performed with Ella Fitzgerald, Joe Sample of the Crusaders, Marty Ehrlich, and many others. He has a Master's Degree in Jazz Studies from the University of North Texas, and has performed and taught in Texas and Oregon for over twenty-five years. In 1994, Mike also founded the Austin Jazz Workshop project to bring jazz performance and mentoring into central Texas public schools

 

Kenny Felton (drums) is a fixture on the local music scene, being much in demand for recording sessions and live performances throughout central Texas. He has played with Delbert McClinton, The Platters, Tamasha Africana, W.C. Clark, and many others. He can move through a great number of styles with astonishing ease, and his rock-solid grooves have anchored the Hepcats for fifteen years

Jim Spector (bass, vocals) is a native Texan who hails from Beaumont , home of the East Texas Cajun Blues. He has performed professionally for over twenty-five years, with such notables as Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Ray Charles, Mose Allison, Starcrost and many others. Locally, he performs with the High Risers and the High Island Hepcats. Jim holds degrees from Texas State University, the University of Houston, and University of Texas Departments of Music and Humanities.

Jamie Hilboldt (Keyboards, Piano, Hammond B-3 Organ, Vocals) Jamie has worked with many top-shelf acts, including: Rotel and the Hot Tomatoes, The Funk Brothers, Shawn Colvin, Ray Benson, and the Duke Ellington Orchestra under Duke’s son Mercer Ellington.  He is a versatile and talented performer who gives his all at every performance.

ernie durawa

Ernie Durawa ( Drums) was born in San Antonio, but he has been a major player on the Austin music scene for decades. His ability to totally transcend stylistic barriers has made him an important part of various bands that do the same thing, most notably the all-star Texas Tornados featuring his life-long friend Doug Sahm as well as country and western legend Freddy Fender and Tex Mex maestro Flaco Jimeniz. Durawa was also the drummer for the unique singer and bandleader Delbert McClinton for a long bluesy stretch which ended in 1981.

John Haddad (Vocals, Guitar) is a versatile vocalist and guitarist, who has performed in the Central Texas area for over 40 years. John hails from El Paso and holds a degree in political science from the University of Texas at Austin. He has plays with the High Island Hep Cats, Beto y los Fairlanes, Mr. Fabulous and Casino Royal, C.W. Slick Band, Time Travelers, The Uranium Savages, Esther's Follies, The Little Big Band as well as many traveling shows and studio recordings. John also performs solo acoustic guitar and vocals for parties and ceremonies.

 

 

Floyd Domino

Floyd Domino (Piano) brought home his second Grammy Award in 2000 for his featured work with Asleep at the Wheel. Floyd Domino has recorded and performed with Merle Haggard, George Strait, The Texas Playboys, Waylon Jennings, jazz guitarist Herb Ellis, Kelly Willis, Bruce Robison, Monte Warden, Don Walser and others. His boogie-woogie styling is known to audiences around the world, and has even been heard in outer space by way of George Strait's #1 hit, "Ace In The Hole", which was beamed up to the crew of the space shuttle Columbia in a wake-up call.

Monte Mann (Vocals, Guitar, Bass) is a great all around vocalist and stringed instrument player. Specializing in rock, swing, jazz and variety music. When added to the basic quartet, his lead and backup vocals and steamy guitar playing spice up the Hepcats for even more dancing and fun. Monte has played with numerous touring bands and is active all over the Austin music scene including stints as guitarist with The High Island Hepcats.

Davic Webb Bio

David Webb (Keyboards, Pianio/Organ) was raised in suburban Boston. After a brief career as a philosophy major, he received his B.M. degree from the Berklee College of Music in 1982, studying with pianists Dean Earl, Mike Marra, Alex Elin, and synthesist-composer Christopher Noyes. He led a working jazz trio in Boston during his undergraduate years as well as playing for recording sessions in Boston and New York City. He has performed with many great artists including Mason Dixon, Leon Everette. Iain Matthews, Marcia Ball, Jerry Jeff Walker, Jimmy Lafave, Eliza Gilkyson, Bill Staines and many others. He has also appeared as a featured guest artist with Marcia Ball, Odetta, Lee Roy Parnell, Confederate Railroad, Pete Seeger and Arlo Guthrie, the Allman Brothers Band and , of course, the High Island Hepcats.
